Porsche Macan

The Macan is the Porsche that made the numbers work, and it happens to be genuinely good to drive. We hold them regularly, petrol and electric.

Why it earned its reputation

Compact SUVs are not supposed to handle. The Macan does — it steers with real precision, contains its body movement properly, and feels engineered rather than styled. That is why it outsold everything else Porsche made for years.

The petrol cars

Macan S

The 3.0-litre V6 turbo. The sensible sweet spot: quick enough to be entertaining, refined, and considerably cheaper to run than the range-toppers.

Macan Turbo / Turbo Performance

The 3.6 V6 twin-turbo. Genuinely fast, and the Performance pack adds power, chassis changes and larger brakes. If you want a Macan that keeps up with sports cars, this is it.

The electric Macan

The 100kWh electric Macan is a different vehicle wearing a familiar name — and by common consent one of the better electric performance cars on sale. Instant torque, a low centre of gravity, and Porsche’s chassis work applied to a platform that suits it.

For company-car drivers the BIK difference against a petrol Macan is enormous, which is doing a great deal to drive demand.

What to check

Specification. As with all Porsches, options dominate value. Air suspension, PASM, the right wheels and a good interior specification are worth real money.
Service history. Unbroken, specialist or main dealer.
PDK health. Smooth engagement from cold, no hesitation in low-speed manoeuvres.
On electric cars: ask about state of health and charging history, and check what remains of the battery warranty.

Petrol or electric?

If it is a company car, run the BIK numbers before anything else — they will probably decide it for you. If it is private and you cannot charge at home, the petrol cars remain the easier ownership proposition.
