Porsche’s electric cars are the rare case where the electric version is not a compromise on the driving. Here is what to know before buying one used.

Principally the 100kWh electric Macan — around 400bhp, four-wheel drive, and a real-world range that makes it usable as an only car for most people.
The company-car case
This is the dominant reason people buy them. Benefit-in-kind on an electric car is a fraction of that on an equivalent petrol Macan, and on a vehicle of this value the annual difference runs to thousands. For a company-car driver the electric Macan is frequently cheaper to have than a much lesser petrol car.
Run your own numbers, but run them first — for many buyers this decides the question before driving anything.
Battery health on a used car
The thing to actually investigate. Ask for:
- State of health — a reading, not an assurance
- Charging history — heavy reliance on rapid DC charging is harder on a pack than AC charging
- Remaining battery warranty — separate from the vehicle warranty, and typically the longer of the two
Charging realities
An 800-volt architecture means these cars charge quickly on suitable DC chargers — considerably faster than most electric vehicles. That materially changes long-journey usability.
At home, a 7kW wallbox will fill it overnight comfortably. Without home charging, ownership is workable but less convenient and more expensive per mile.
Running costs
Cheap to fuel if you charge at home, less so on public rapid charging. Servicing is simpler than a petrol car’s. Tyres are the significant consumable — these are heavy, powerful cars and they use tyres accordingly.
Depreciation
Be realistic. Electric performance cars have depreciated faster than their petrol equivalents, which is bad news if you bought new and good news if you are buying used. A two-year-old electric Macan represents a large saving against list.
